SUP PALAWAN, PHILIPPINES 2019

DATE: 8-16 March 2019
DURATION: 9 days / 8 nights

This SUP tour of the Philippines will see you arriving in to beautiful El Nido, where the next three days will be spent island hopping by boat, paddling the bays and lagoons (by SUP or transparent kayak) and swimming with turtles. Those who have the courage can also zip-line across the beach to an island that lies just offshore! We even have a sunset paddle in there just for you!

We then travel by fast boat to Coron in the north, where we explore the town, soak in thermal springs and dine on the harbour front. The next day, it's off to the famed Coron Island to swim in the lakes and paddle/ snorkel the lagoons. Opportunity also exists for certified scuba divers to explore many of Palawan’s WW2 shipwrecks while in Coron (extra cost).

From that point on, we'll be staying at the magical Al Faro Palawan. Looking like a fairy castle upon the hill, we get to enjoy 360 degree views, a infinity pool and 4 days of island-hopping, traditional fishing village visits, snorkelling on WW2 shipwrecks and exploring deserted isles that appear to have come straight from Pirates of the Caribbean!

LOCATION OVERVIEW

Few destinations can hold a candle to the brilliance of Palawan. Located in the west of the Philippines, more than 1780 islands form an archipelago that stretches almost as far south as Borneo and north to the island of Mindoro.

With so many islands, comes a lot of coastline: 1200 miles (almost 2000 km)) in fact! Characterised by jelly blue lagoons, jungle rivers, hidden caves, and palm fringed white sand beaches, it all adds up to a paddle boarder’s paradise!

Nearly 11,000 square kilometres (more than 35% of the country's coral reefs), are found in Palawan, making the region an important one for marine conservation efforts. Sheer granite cliffs thrust skywards while the sea’s incessant ebb and flow gnaws at the base of limestone karst islets.

There's no doubting that Palawan is one of the most spectacular places in all of the Philippines and - if you believe the likes of CNN Traveler and Conde Nast - you'll be frolicking along some of the best beaches in the world.

ITINERARY

DAY ONE - ARRIVAL

Manila to El Nido. Check in to our hotel. Free day to explore and relax, go for a dive or go zip lining across the bay. Join us for a sunset paddle followed by dinner on the beach.

DAY TWO - LAGOON DAY

Breakfast at hotel, then private boat transfer to explore El Nido’s famed lagoons. Paddle boards or kayaks provided. BYO snorkel gear as the turtles and corals are amazing! Seafood BBQ lunch provided on the island.

DAY THREE - FLEX DAY

Breakfast at hotel, then explore more of El Nido's coral reefs and pretty bays by SUP or transparent kayak. If the weather’s nice, we may grab another boat to do some more island-hopping. If you’re a diver, today is a perfect day to head off for two or three dives.

DAY FOUR - TRANSFER DAY

Depart early for Coron Town in the north of Palawan. The trip by Fast Boat takes 3.5 hours and lets you see wonderful islands and reefs along the way. Check into hotel in town AT ABOUT 10am, then spend a little time exploring before we head to the thermal hot springs for a soak mid-afternoon. Dinner on the harbour front at sunset. For divers, there is the option to get in a dive or two in the afternoon or set up dives for following days.

DAY FIVE - CORON ISLAND

We depart after breakfast for a day of lagoon and lake swims on stunning Coron Island. We get there by boat but take SUPs with us to explore the hidden bays and caves. BYO snorkel gear as the water is stunningly clear! On our return, we transfer up the coast 45 minutes to the luxurious Al Faro Palawan hotel.

DAY SIX - FLEX DAY

Today is a day to just chillax and enjoy the infinity pool, views, in-house massages and tranquil bay. Paddle to a scuttled plane or check out the sea cucumber farm, explore the mangrove forest or bays. Dinner and dancing at sunset by the pool. For divers, the dive resort across the bay will whisk you off to the Wreck of the Lusong (pretty much in front of our hotel), and some of the other great ship wrecks a little further off shore, which offer penetration dives.

DAY SEVEN - BLACK ISLAND

A day on the water as we head to Black Island and visit a traditional fishing village as well. The snorkelling/ paddling is amazing and there's a ship wreck to see, plus incredible caves to swim in and coral that attract large schools of fish.

DAY EIGHT - FLEX DAY

For some, this can be a day of rest and relaxation by the pool, or a day to paddle, snorkel, snooze or indulge in another massage. For others, it offers another opportunity to head out for a scuba dive. Those who wish to can visit the local village to make flip flop fish with the kids from marine debris and teach them about conservation through play.

DAY NINE - DEPARTURE

Breakfast at hotel, chillax and pack. Transfer to airport for mid-afternoon flight back to Manila.
